
PreCanSkate
PreCanSkate is a 30 minute learn to skate program for 3-5 year olds. Skaters learn the basics of skating while having fun with different teaching aids and activities on the ice. Professional Coaches and Program Assistants work with each of the skaters on skills like falling down and getting up, skating forward and balance.
Schedule:
- PreCanSkate will not be offered in summer 2025.
- The next PreCanSkate sessions will begin in October 2025.
CanSkate - Learn to Skate
CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program for beginners of any age that teaches fundamental movements and basic skills. Click for more information on CanSkate.
The Huntsville Skating Club is extremely proud of our CanSkate program. We are one of a select group of clubs who have both achieved and exceeded Skate Ontario's standards of excellence.
We offer an EXCELLENCE EXCEEDED CANSKATE PROGRAM.
Skaters can use hockey or figure skates. CSA Approved hockey helmets mandatory for all CanSkaters. The CanSkate program starts at age 5 however if your child is under 5 but you feel they're ready to learn to skate, please feel free to talk to one of our board members or a coach.
Schedule:
- For summer 2025, CanSkate will be offered as a 9 week program.
- Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm for the months of July and August.
- Don Lough Arena at the Canada Summit Centre.
StarSkate - Figure Skating
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition - this is what StarSkate is all about! StarSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate, and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in StarSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
At HSC, our StarSkaters are divided into three sessions:
- Bronze - Passed CanSkate Level 6
- Silver - Passed TWO Star 3 tests (Star 3 Skills is mandatory)
- Gold - Passed TWO Star 5 tests (Star 5 Skills is mandatory)
HSC skaters can skate in the test or competitive streams.
Schedule:
Bronze, Silver and Gold skaters will be offered ice time throughout the months of June, July and August.
In June, ice will be available on Monday and Thursday evenings as well as Wednesday mornings.
In July and August, ice will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Skaters should see the calendar below to determine the appropriate time for their level. Summer packages will soon be available for purchase on the Registration page.
Hockey Skating Skills
Hockey Skills is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes proper mechanical execution and also how the skills apply to game situations.
Hockey Skating Skills is taught in a group environment, therefore all participants should have basic skating abilities and should be able to manage the following skills:
- Be able to get up on their own
- Be able to skate forward the length of the ice using alternate strides
- Be able to skate backward the width of the ice using alternate strides
- Be able to stop without hitting the boards
Full hockey gear is recommended.
Schedule:
- For summer 2025, Hockey Skills will be offered in two separate levels.
- For Intermediate and Advanced participants, we will offer a four-week program on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 6:50 pm for the month of August.
- For beginner hockey skills participants, we offer a special "Hockey Skills" group during our CanSkate sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 6:45 for the months of July and August.

Teen/Adult Learn to Skate and Beyond
All levels of skaters welcome from new to skating to past figure skaters. Hockey or figure skaters can be used. CSA approved helmets required for any skaters who have not passed CanSkate 6.
